Lew Feldman

Born in Los Angeles, California, Lew graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude and obtained in his law degree from Loyola Marymount University.  He is a member of the State Bars of California and Nevada, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California, the United States District Court for the District of Nevada, the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.  Lew is a member of the Real Estate, Business Law, and Environmental Law sections of the California State Bar Association.  He has served on numerous Tahoe Regional Planning Agency committees, local boards, and community organizations.  Lew was appointed to serve on the TRPA Bi-State Consultation Committee which successfully brokered adoption of the 2012 Regional Plan Update.

Lew limits his practice to land use, real estate, and business law.  Since 1985, he has devoted an increasing amount of time to redevelopment and private development projects within Lake Tahoe, and since 1991 has represented private developers in connection with the Edgewood Lodge & Golf Course, Tahoe Beach Club, Heavenly Village Redevelopment Project, and several other hospitality, commercial, and affordable housing projects in the Tahoe Basin.

Mike McLaughlin

Born in Long Beach, California, Mike attended Loyola Marymount University and Durham University in Durham, England.  He graduated from Loyola Marymount in 1988 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and was selected to Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.  Mike received a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1992. He is a member of the State Bars of California and Nevada, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Central, Northern, Eastern, and Southern District of California and the District of Nevada, and the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit.

Mike practices in the areas of real estate, business and commercial transactions, probate, and civil litigation and appeals. A few examples include:

  • Unanimous jury verdict in favor of property owner in defense of seven figure premises liability case (Larson v. Getzelman, El Dorado Co. Sup. Ct. Case No. SC20100293)
  • Unanimous jury verdict in favor of real estate brokers in defense of complaint for misappropriation of trade secrets (Mountain View Management v. Phillips, El Dorado Co. Sup. Ct. Case No. SC20080258)
  • Unanimous jury verdict in favor of plaintiff homeowner for damages against owner’s association for private nuisance (Hollow v. Lakeland Village Owners Association, El Dorado Co. Sup. Ct. Case No. SC20050225)
  • Appellate court affirmed defense (on summary judgment) of resort owner in action seeking writ of mandate challenging development permit (Tahoe Vista Concerned Citizens v. County of Placer (2000) 81 Cal. App. 4th 577)
  • Successful defense (on summary judgment) under federal maritime law of mid-six-figure personal injury claim (Gipson v. Kajima Engineering and Constr. (C.D. Cal 1997) 972 F. Supp. 537)
  • Appellate court affirmed summary judgment in favor of freight forwarder enforcing contractual limitation of liability limiting shipper’s mid-six-figure claim to $50 (Ins. Co. of North America v. NNR Aircargo Service (USA), Inc. (9th Cir. 2000) 201 F.3d 1111)

Kara Thiel

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Albany, Georgia, Kara graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.  Immediately following graduation, Kara moved to Lake Tahoe where she worked as a planner for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and then as an engineer for the California Regional Water Quality Control Board – Lahontan Region until entering law school in the fall of 2003.  Kara received a Juris Doctor with Distinction from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in May 2006.  Kara is a member of the State Bars of California and Nevada, and is admitted to practice in all courts of the States of California, Nevada, and Georgia, and the United States District Court for the District of Nevada.  She is also a member of the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe.

Kara practices in the areas of real estate, land use, and environmental law.
